The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name and contact details)
  • Medical information relating to your appointments with Overcoming OCD clinicians
  • Details of other medical professionals with whom you are registered, if provided by you.
  • In some circumstances we may carefully anonymise your personal data so that it can no longer be associated with you, and we may use this anonymised information indefinitely without notifying you to improve our services and carry out clinical analysis.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • To register with our service
  • To allow clinicians to carry out clinical appointments, assess the severity of your symptoms and monitor your progress
  • To refer you to another service

We may also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • We may receive referrals or clinical letters from another clinician involved in your care
  • We may receive letters or calls from your family or friends regarding their concerns for you

We use the information that you have given us in order to

  • Contact you regarding appointments etc.
  • Treat you effectively, including clinical supervision discussions
  • Refer you to another service
  • Keep you safe in emergencies
  • Analyse our service and its effectiveness using anonymised data

We may share this information with

  • Other clinicians involved in your care, but only with your permission
  • Other services, with your permission, for purposed of onward referral
  • Friends or relatives you nominate, with your permission.
  • Emergency services in the case of a medical emergency. Please note we do not require your permission to share your data in this rare occurrence.
  • A debt collection company in rare cases. Please see the terms and conditions of treatment for further information.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

How we store your personal information

We will only retain your personal information for as long as we need it unless we are required to keep it for longer to comply with our legal, accounting or regulatory requirements.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
